Travis' Birth Story

This story starts on April 16, 2016. I was having a baby shower that day. I woke up not feeling well that day, but I just thought I had caught the bug that Lyil and Makayla had had a few days earlier. I went to my baby shower anyway but right as it ended I started having contractions. I went home and laid down and they went away. At the shower I kept telling people I thought he was going to come soon, but I didn't realize how soon it really would be. I was thinking a few more days. At 2:30 AM I woke up having strong contractions that were 3-5 minutes apart. I timed them for an hour and then woke up Lyil and told him we needed to go to the hospital. His mom came over to stay with Makayla. They told me I was definitely in labor and that my water had been leaking. They wanted to know when that started, but I couldn't give them a definite time or even day since he had been pushing on my bladder for over a week. They broke my water and I got an epidural and then just relaxed and slept off and on. They had to give me some pitocin  to keep my labor progressing but my epidural worked wonders and I didn't feel any contractions. By 12:30 PM on the 17th I was ready to start pushing. I pushed for a little more than 3 hours with little progress. I was so tired at this point that I was falling asleep in between pushes. We decided to get some help so they used forceps. One more push and he was out. I didn't get to hold him right away because when they use forceps they have the respiratory therapist and a NICU nurse come check them out just in case there is a problem. Everything was fine though and I was holding him pretty soon after he was born. Because of the forceps I had to have 8 stitches and had 3rd degree tears, which has made recovery a little slower than I had hoped. Charles Travis Sperry was born at 4:14 PM on April 17, 2016. He weighed 7 lbs. 13 oz. and was 19.75 inches long.  I am so glad that we were able to have a successful VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean) and a healthy full term baby. All I could think was how amazing it was to deliver a baby. I felt like super woman! This picture is when Makayla first met her little brother. She wasn't quite sure what to think that first night, but had really warmed up to him by the next day. I sure love my little man!!
