My summer of 2009

All i can say is blessings sure do come in all shapes and sizes. This summer was a very busy one packed full of fun, emotion, and adventure. I worked at Maple Dell Scout Camp again, this year as a commissioner. I loved it so much! I really learned a lot this summer and was really pushed to become more outgoing and to stand up for myself more. I really feel like i learned a lot this summer and grew a lot. It was so fun to be out in the woods all summer around the plants and animals and hundreds and hundreds of scouts :) I am so grateful for the staff that i worked with this summer. They became really great friends who i owe a lot to.
As my last post shows I was engaged. I was going to get married on the last day of camp, but about 2 1/2 weeks before that day Rory and I decided that we needed to postpone our wedding. We aren't sure for how long. Maybe a year or two, maybe never. Right now we are just taking it a day at a time and we will see where life takes us. This really has turned out to be a very good decision for us. Even though we had almost all of the plans finalized and everything ready to go, I feel that we made a good choice. This is where the wonderful camp staff comes back into play in my life. As you can imagine I had a rough couple of weeks emotionally after Rory and I called off the wedding. I am so grateful I was at camp during this time. The staff was really there for me. when i wanted to talk someone was always there to listen and talk with me, but when i didn't want to think about it, they didn't push it or ask questions. Because i was at camp i was forced to continue working and to be happy, at least around the scouts. I am so grateful for this because without camp i might still be in a depression.
So thanks to all of my friends and family who have stood by me this summer and been there when i needed them. Thanks for helping me plan a wedding and for being there for me when it didn't happen. I really am so blessed! This summer has been a really fun one! Now it is back to school for me.

I'm Engaged!

On April 10,2009 the man of my dreams and love of my life asked me to marry him. So here is the story. Rory and I have been dating on and off for about a year and a half now. We had recently gotten back together when we planned a camping trip to Capitol Reef National Park. I had never been there before and the whole trip down he kept talking about how magical it was and how it would be a life changing experience for me. At this point I had no idea what he was talking about so I just thought "wow this place must be pretty spectacular!" So Rory, me, and our friends Kenzie and Sean set up camp. Once we got settled Rory said he wanted to take me on a hike. We invited Kenzie and Sean and headed off up the trail. Kenzie was snapping pictures the whole way up. while Rory was saying things like "I call this the stairway to heaven because it is strenuous but pure bliss at the top" (more references to what was about to happen and I was still oblivious!) Well we reached the top, took some pictures and headed back down the trail a ways to a place that we wanted to take more pictures. Rory asked Kenzie to take a picture of the two of us and had her push record on the camera instead of actually taking pictures. Rory pulled the ring out of his pocket and hugged me so that he could get the ring out with out me seeing it. I asked him what he was doing with his hands since it wasn't a normal hug. He said nothing, but then I heard the box snap shut. My face at this point must have been priceless as I figured out what was happening. He pulled the ring between the two of us and got down on one knee. He told me that he loved me and asked me to marry him. As I said yes he went to put the ring on, but got the wrong hand (he was totally nervous. it was adorable!) We got a few more pictures and then took "interviews" from everyone. Kenzie and Sean told how they helped plan it all and how they helped keep the secret. It was perfect. I always dreamed that I would be proposed to on top of a mountain and my dream came true. Rory proposed with a promise ring. The promise was that i would get to choose my own engagement ring. As soon as we got back to Cedar City from camping we went straight to the jewelers and chose my ring. I couldn't be happier. I love Rory so much. He is my best friend and I am so excited to spend the rest of eternity with him! We are getting married on August 8,2009 in the Mt. Timpanogos Temple. I will try and post more pictures later when I get access to them. (they are on Rory's camera)

My ROTC Adventures

Ok i know it has been such a long time since i have written anything. My computer has been broken which means i am using the library a lot and most of the time i have just enough time to check my email and facebook and move on to other things like class or homework. A lot has changed in my life this semester. I am now single, which is just fine. (most of the time) and I have some pretty great classes.

One of my new favorite classes is ROTC. No this does not mean that i have joined the military. I am just taking the class for fun. I am learning some good leadership skills and all about how the military works. and No i don't plan on joining. I have thought about it some, but I have exercise induced asthma so there would have to be so many waivers and things like that, that it's just not worth it. Anyway, it has been a lot of fun so far and i have learned a lot. we have a 3 hour lab once a week where we go out and learn tactics and paintball. sometimes we set up ambushes and other times we deal the "civilians". At first it was all just going over my head but the last two weeks that we did paintballing i really enjoyed it and actually understood the mission and what was going on. (the first picture is of me when i got shot in the back and the second is of me and Cadet Romero all ready to go)

I have also had the chance to do two color guards for the gymnastics meets here. Because i am short i am always on the left holding a gun. I really like doing the color guard. It reminds me of being at scout camp and doing flag ceremonies. (in the picture i am the once closest to the camera and then it goes Cadet Carey, Cadet Caldwell, and Cadet Romero)
well I hope i can add more later, but there is my update:)
